Jim grew up and lived most of his life in the Central Valley of California.
He was determined to be a self-made man and at age nine found a journeyman to teach him shoe repair. From then on he worked tirelessly, pursuing his goal of becoming the best cobbler around. His dedication led to a lifetime career that enabled him to support his family and sustain his hobbies.
He enjoyed dancing, partying and being the center of attention. Later in life, his hobbies included college football, getting progressively angrier at pro football, watching movies and painting.
Throughout his almost 89 years, one accomplishment stood above all the rest - the life and marriage he shared with his wife, Rita Beza Avina. She was, and now again is, the force keeping him whole.
He is survived by his best friend and brother-in-law, Frank Salvio, his children Richard, Michael and Yvette, his grandchildren Joshua, Alexandria, Samantha, Amanda, Nicholas, Jacob, Vincent, Richard Jr, Matteo, Sarah and Cole, and finally his great grandchildren Keiran, Atlas, Ronan and Aedan - all of whom brought him an immense amount of pride and joy.
A memorial mass for Jim will be held Friday, February 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Victory Church, 2838 N West Ave, Fresno, California 93705.
