

Joan passed away on November 16th at the age of 78. Born in Fresno on July 9th, 1944, to Henry Miller and Elsie Helmuth Miller, she is preceded in death by her brother Bill Miller. Joan graduated from Fresno High School and later spent time at Diablo Valley College
Joan is survived by her son Scott Owens of Wilton, CA, his wife Shirley Joyce, and her 13-year-old granddaughter Julia Owens.
Joan is also survived by her long-time partner Gil Merrill of 47 years, first living in Fresno followed by Eureka, Truckee, Yreka, and finally settling in Stockton CA for the past 20+ years.
Lastly, Joan is survived by her Nieces Heather Sandstrom and Shannon (Sky) Witt and their children.
Joan worked at various locations throughout her career as a bank teller and in retail clothing, retiring from Drapers and Damons in Stockton.
Joan’s grandparents emigrated from Russia through Ellis Island and were part of the Germans from Russia community, originating in the Volga River region of Russia, later moving to various parts of the US, including the Central Valley as farmers.
Joan enjoyed life, especially the Christmas season, and loved many different forms of music and was known to attend live performances that included the likes of Elvis, Willie Nelson, Chris Isaak, and The Grateful Dead. Growing up with her brother Bill, who was an avid musician throughout his life, Joan was introduced to everything from Big Band to Rock and Roll and Americana Music.
