Joanna Arredondo, born on July 18, 1990, in Salinas, California, passed away on January 18, 2026, at the age of 35, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. Taken from us far too young, Joanna faced her illness with strength, determination, and grace, fighting with the same resolve that defined every aspect of her life. She was a truly remarkable woman whose beauty, strength, and presence left a profound impact on all who knew her.
Joanna was beautiful, inside and out. She was a hard worker, deeply driven, and lived with the passion and intensity reflected in “Gema” by Vicente Fernández. Like the woman portrayed in the song, Joanna was a rare and precious gem, someone whose value was undeniable, whose presence elevated the lives around her. She was a gift to the world: strong yet gracious and thoughtful, confident yet deeply compassionate, radiant in both spirit and character. Her beauty was not only seen but felt, expressed through her integrity, her resilience, and the love she gave so freely. Joanna moved through life with authenticity and purpose, touching countless lives through her intelligence, empathy, and unwavering commitment to others.
After graduating from Madera South High School, Joanna moved to Fresno with a deep understanding of the value of education and the opportunities it could create. She attended California State University, Fresno, where she earned her degree in Social Work through dedication and perseverance. Joanna continued her education, obtaining her Master’s degree and becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Guided by her belief in growth and purpose, she used her education to advocate for dignity, justice, and meaningful progress, and devoted her career to supporting individuals, families, and communities.
Joanna was deeply proud of her Latin roots and her culture. She stood firmly for women’s rights, social progress, and the empowerment of others. She was a guerrera, resilient, fearless, and principled, taken from us far too early.
An avid traveler, Joanna embraced the world with curiosity and joy, if there was sun or a beach, she was there. She believed deeply in learning through experience, in seeing the world for herself, and in growing through every place and culture she encountered. Joanna traveled extensively, purchased her car and her home, and built her life on her own. She was the epitome of an independent woman, living by her principles with intention and courage, and choosing a life that reflected her values and her belief in living fully, thoughtfully, and authentically.
Joanna is survived by her mother, Maribel Miranda; her siblings, Josephat Miranda ,Karina Garcia (and her husband, Roberto Bernal), Jenny Garcia, and Cindy Arredondo; her beloved nephews and niece: Chase Sanchez, Julian Bernal, and Sophia Bernal; and her cherished pets: Leo, her chihuahua, and her cats, Lexi and Gorda.
Joanna is also lovingly remembered by her many friends, whom she proudly called her chosen family, people she loved deeply and who stood beside her with loyalty, laughter, and unwavering support.
Joanna was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched, the work she devoted herself to, and the strength, love, and authenticity she shared so freely. Joanna would want it known that she loved her life and lived it fully, on her own terms.
