Joaquin, age 68, passed away peacefully at home with his family and his dog by his side, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in La Plaza de Limon, Michoacán, Mexico to Maria Dolores and Joaquin Verduzco.
He attended school in the Seminary prior to coming to the United States at 21 years of age. In 1970 he married Juanita and then several years later they had their daughter, Susie and their son, Joaquin whom he named after his father.
He worked in the fields, learned English and put himself through college, eventually becoming a well-respected and very knowledgeable school psychologist. He worked over 20 years in his profession prior to retiring from Fresno County Office of Education in 2006. He then volunteered numerous years at the Holy Cross Center for Women.
He will be joining his younger brother Lolo, in heaven who also recently passed away; and who is the reason for Joaquin's existence over the last 17 years due to him giving him one of his kidneys.
He is survived by Juanity, his loving ex-wife of over 20 year; his daughter Susie and her husband Tony; his son, Joaquin "Jocko" and his girlfriend Deena; his five granddaughters, Susie Q, Amarissa, Krysta, Andrea, and Jacqueline; his sisters, Ernestina, Lupe, and Native; and his brothers, Diego, Trino, Jose, and Manuel.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Thursday, July 19, 2012, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church on Friday, July 20, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.
Remembrances in his name may be made to the St. Agnes Holy Cross Center for Women.
