Joe Orum Jr. or Butchie, 77, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with cancer and other health complications on July 25th, 2026.
Born on August 22nd, 1948, in Selma, California, to Mildred and Joe Orum Sr., Joe lived a life defined by service, dedication, hard work, and love for his family. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for 10 years as a radio operator with the 101st Airborne Division. He was drafted and served in Vietnam for over a year where he made many lifetime friends. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and received an honorable discharge, carrying with him a deep sense of pride in his military service throughout his life.
Following his time in the Army, Joe began a successful career in the automotive industry in the 1980s. Starting as a car salesman, he worked his way up to become a respected Used Car Manager. For the past 29 years, he was a valued member of the Swanson-Fahrey Auto Group, where he found not only a career but a second family. His dedication, integrity, and friendships there meant the world to him.
Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 40 years, Margo Orum. whose memory he cherished every day. Also, preceded in death by his father Joe Orum Sr, mother Mildred Orum, his sister Peggy Perry and brother in laws Jim Perry and Lonnie Whaley.
He leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure his memory: his daughter, Joleta Carns and her husband, Ryan Carns; his son, Michael Orum; his grandchildren, Riley Carns, Jenna Carns, Tyler Orum, and Isabella Olivares; and his great-grandchildren, Brantley Chambers, Jaxson Chambers, and Sadie Gilbert.
He is also survived by his sisters, Brenda Cummins and her husband, Stan Cummins, and Cheryl Whaley, along with many beloved nieces and nephews, including Michelle Ochoa, Liz Ochoa, Lonnie Whaley, Jeremy Whaley, Troy Cummins, Stanley Cummins, and Linda Perry., along with many great nieces and nephews.
Joe will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, unwavering work ethic, and the love he had for his family and friends. Whether serving his country, helping customers find the right vehicle, or simply spending time with those he loved, he gave his all. Outside of work, Joe enjoyed the excitement of horse racing and was a devoted fan of A's baseball, faithfully cheering on his team throughout the years. His legacy of honor, kindness, and perseverance will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who offered their love, prayers, and support during Joe's illness. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
