John was born in Oakland, CA, on March 6, 1923, and grew up in Healdsburg, CA. He went to college in Madison, WI, and completed his degree at California State University, Fresno, in 1970. John was in the United States Army Air Forces from 1944 to 1945, and returned home to work in architecture while completing civilian pilot training.
John met Phyllis Harrah at a local square dance in Watsonville, CA, and the two were married in 1948. They had two boys, and lived on a farm outside of town until Phyllis passed in 1956. In 1959, John met Janice Ingersoll through mutual friends and following a brief courtship the two were married. Their marriage added a precious daughter to his family. The family of five moved to Fresno, CA where John worked for City Planning and Housing & Urban Development. John loved his family, singing, flying, traveling, and helping others.
John's beloved wife, Janice Easterly, passed away in 2016.
He is survived by sons, Tom and his wife Cathy of Fresno, CA, and Fred and his wife Jeanetta of Reno, NV; daughter, Lorri Crowston and her husband Todd of Fresno, CA; grandchildren, Tre Ellis and her husband Joe, and Logan Cornell of Fresno, CA; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Cullen, Sidney, and Olivia; nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog and constant companion Stella.
A Graveside Service will be held at Clovis Cemetery on Friday, April 27, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at Clovis Hills Community Church in Clovis, CA, at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pregnancy Care Center of Fresno.
