

John was born October 22, 1948, in Fresno, Ca. and passed away on September 18, 2010 in Fresno. He was the second son of four children born to Millicent Gibbs and Kirk Gibbs, Jr. He grew up in Fresno and graduated from Bullard High School in 1966. There he was lucky enough to make a group of friends who remained loyal, loving and supportive for his entire life.
John served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and upon his return completed his degree from California State University Fresno. After trying his hand at various careers including stand up comedy in Los Angeles he settled on a career as a high school special education teacher in Central Unified. While there, he particularly enjoyed a stint as the assistant golf coach. He retired in 2008.
Golf was John's passion and he played some of the most beautiful courses in California. He was often the life of the party and was known for his quick wit and great laugh.
At the age of 44, he met and married his wife, Lynne. They were married until her passing in January 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Rusty.
John is survived by his sisters and their husbands, Betsy and Mike Hurley, Ann and Gary Lentell; as well as his nieces; nephews; and grandnieces.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Belmont Memorial Park, on Saturday, September 25, 2010, at 10:30 a.m.
