June was born on April 24, 1930 in Chualar, Monterey County, California to Thomas William Spliethof and Helen Hazel (Schade) Spliethof. With her father taking on various jobs along the way to support his family, they moved to Red Bluff, Tehama County, California. While living there, June began the first grade at Marion School, a one-room country school that taught first through eighth grade all in the same room. Her family, which now included her younger sister Patsy, moved and settled in Lakeport, Lake County California where she attended Upper Lake Elementary from the third to the sixth grade and graduated from Clear Lake Union High School in Lakeport in 1948.
After graduating high school, June attended Santa Rosa Junior College, where she met Rodney E. Barnett and they married on December 18, 1949 in Santa Rosa. After several months, June & Rod moved to Fresno, California where Rod attended Fresno State College. They settled into life, eventually raising three sons and a daughter in the same home she and Rod moved into in 1956. As her children grew, June was a stay-at-home mom and became involved in the YMCA Indian Guides and Maidens, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. As her children got older, June pursued her volunteer service in the Girl Scouts as an assistant troop leader, troop leader, neighborhood Chairperson, and eventually served a three-year term as president of the Golden Valley Girl Scout Council which covered Fresno, Madera, Tulare, and Kings counties.
Besides loving and raising her family, June's great passion became genealogy. In later years, June and Rod would travel in her search for both the Barnett and Spliethof families' history. Their travels took them to Northern California, Utah, Colorado, Greece, Germany, and the Netherlands. She found and met cousins here in America as well as abroad in other countries. Over 50+ years, through a lot of phone, computer research, and her extensive travels, June compiled a personal genealogy library of both sides of her family that is massive!
June was able to celebrate her 90th birthday which was post-poned twice until 2021 due to Covid-19 restrictions. She was able to experience the joy of seeing seven great-grandchildren added to her family but will sadly miss the birth of her eighth great-grandchild, due very soon. She will also miss the wedding of her oldest granddaughter later this year that she was so looking forward to.
June was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rodney E. Barnett, parents, Thomas William & Helen Hazel Spliethof, and her sister Patsy Ruth Dunn.
June is survived by her sons: Rodney W. Barnett; Philip Barnett; Mathew Barnett and his wife Shelley; daughter, Helen A. Clark and her husband Douglas; grandchildren Tony Davis and his wife Kristen; Anthony Morales and his wife Jenna; Brandon Barnett and his wife Jenna; Josh Wood and his wife Megan; Kaala and Selah Wood; Mason Barnett and his wife Madison; Mallory Barnett and her fiance Austin Burt; Madolyn Carillo and her husband Eric; and 7 great- grandchildren (soon to be 8).
In her final hours of this life, June was prayed over, loved on by her family, and she took comfort in departing this world in Psalm 23 which greatly comforted her family as well.
