Karen Diane Kubar, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully at home after a 26 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born and raised in Chicago, Il. She met Heigo “Mike” Kubar while attending Southern Illinois University and married 3 months later. They were married 56 years when she died. They lived in Chicago for three years before Mike’s job brought them to Fresno. In 1995, at age 49, Karen was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, and continued to work alongside her husband’s businesses for many years.
A long time member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Karen’s Christian faith never wavered. Karen never stopped fighting and no matter how sick she was, she was always determined. Karen always had a smile on her face. Karen was a person who was slow to judge and quick to forgive.
Karen is survived by her devoted, loving husband Mike, their children Jon, Kim and Terry, 6 grandchildren and her sister Pat.
A special thank you to caregivers Sienna and Peggy and especially Elizabeth who cared for Karen and made her life tolerable.
Karen was deeply involved with the local chapter of Parkinson’s Foundation. She inspired others with PD through her participation at Rock Steady Boxing which aims to empower people with PD to fight back. Donations can be made in Karen’s memory to:
