Dad, I was a lucky little girl to have you in my life.

It's been 9 years since you passed from this earth and from our lives. I miss you and think of you every day. I will always be greatful for the times we did have together.

About 1967.  Miss you dad. You gave your life in service of our nation and in service of others. 

You are remembered dad. For all the joys, for the adventures, and most important for your love of G-d.  You may not walk on this earth any longer but you are never far from my thoughts. 

No words I write can describe your loss.  From 2001-2002, I was Layne's roommate while stationed in Incirlik AB, Turkey.  He was always very helpful on my first time away from the States.  He had great insight on living abroad and shared his experiences.  He was a great friend.  I still think about him to this day.  Rest in peace my friend. I'll see you on the other side. - Roy Estala

Missing you so very much dad.  I'm so thankful we had such a wonderful relationship. You guided me throughout the years with Faith, Love and Hope. Know you are thought of every moment of the day and greatly missed.

I'd like to send a warm thank you to each person who took the opportunity to write something about dad. Finding these words tonight provides much needed comfort.

Although I was an FTM, I was a member of Layne's Shore Bombardment team in Gun Plot during the 1969 Westpac cruise.  Layne loaned me his study books on flying.  I remember when he made Chief - he was certainly deserving as he was a leader.  What a great guy he was, and a sailor to admire.

I was a green Ensign.  Layne helped me learn about the fire control system.  He was a really nice guy.

Words cannot express the sadness I feel about the passing of Layne. He was my first Chief. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. My condolences go out to his family.

My condolences to the family and loved ones of Layne Hurst. I knew Layne when we served on the USS Towers (DDG-9) during the Vietnam War. Layne and I always exchanged pleasantries when we see each other on the ship.

When Layne passed away we lost a truly good man. I consider myself to be very lucky to have been Judy and Layne's neighbor for 8 years. He will be missed. When I think about the greeting I got from Layne, "well hello there young lady", it will always make me smile. Rest in peace my friend
