Lydia Maciel was born on September 19, 1958 in Fresno, California to her loving parents Juan and Madeline Bustamantez, both of whom have preceded her in death. Lydia is survived by two adult children, Peter John (PJ) and Derek Rodriguez, whom she loved deeply and was very proud of. Lydia worked at California State University, Fresno for 25 years where she cherished her job, colleagues and the lifelong friends she made. In 2012, she retired due to health problems.
Lydia met Martin Maciel in 2006, and through him she found not only a husband, but her true soulmate. They shared a beautiful life together, filled with sports and music. Lydia was an amazing person, brave and adventurous, and fun and loving. She is survived by her husband Martin Maciel, her sons Peter John and Derek Rodriguez, and her grandchildren. Additionally, Lydia leaves behind her loving sisters and their spouses, Della and Arthur Rivera, and Sandra and George Hernandez, as well as nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by The Maciel Family who welcomed her into their family with love. As her health declined, they came to Fresno to care for her and were a constant source of love and support. With her husband and soulmate Martin by her side, Lydia passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 18, 2022. Also, the family would like to thank Hinds Hospice for their care and guidance.
