Dear Chuck, Sean, Mark, and Hilda,
I want to take a moment to memorialize Midge and extend my heartfelt sympathies to you as you grieve her loss.
I met Midge in 1980 at Presbyterian Women which is an "inclusive and caring community of women committed to working towards God's promise of wholeness for all God's people".  I attended Millbrook Presbyterian Church and Midge attended Westminster Presbyterian Church.  She called me one day and asked what she needed to do to become my friend.  "Did one of my other friends need to die so she could take their place?"  We became friends!!!
Under her tutelage she taught me the importance of sharing meals in my home and hers.  Meals were perfected with table settings and set the mood for hospitality.    We shared many meals and life events over the years.   
I was a tall lady and she insisted that I embrace my height and get rid of small prints and begin to wear capes.  Of course, large hats should be reserved for tall ladies and adorn my head.
In the last year of her life, when Bob and I would take meals over and enjoy them with Chuck, Midge, and Sean; she made sure to tell me that she loved me as we chatted or before we left.   "I love you Marla."
Bob, Ben, Daniel, and myself are priveleged to know the extended Barrettt and Sweet families.  Midge took the time to be interested in me and she opened her heart to the Speechly family.
MIdge's life has been rich and she has enriched us all.

Dearest Chuck, I am Sad to hear of Midge’s passing.  She so graciously let me borrow one of Cappie Barrett’s fabulous hats while I was impersonating Mae West - I eventually had a similar one made for me. She was such a Classy Lady! Sending Prayers of Comfort.  Rhonda Grove

Chuck and Midge have been my friends since the late 1980s. Chuck and I were involved with numerous political campaigns along with several other friends.  Midge was always so kind and tolerant of our political views. Even when we pushed Chuck to run for assembly, she was incredibly gracious throughout it all. She was always so supportive of Chuck in everything he did. Regretfully, I moved away from Fresno and not maintained contact with them as much as I would have liked. You will be greatly missed, Midge. You always lit up the room with your smile and your good humor. Chuck was very lucky to have you in his life for so many years.

My folks (Speechly’s) have been good friends with the Barrett’s as far back as I can recall.  

During the 90s when I was a preteen our families would dine at each other’s homes. After dinner as the adults would sit around chatting it up, my brother and I watched the Science Fiction movie The Last Star Fighter. It became a habit and we probably watched the movie half a dozen times over the course a few years. 

To this very day when I hear of or think of The Last Star Fighter, Midge, Chuck & Shawn come to mind. 

May her memory be eternal.

Our heart goes out to you and your family at this difficult time.  
Midge and Chuck have been our back yard neighbors for 35 years.  All I can say is that we couldn’t have chosen better people to be our neighbors.  
Midge always had a smile on her face and we’d always have nice chats  when we’d see her and Chuck.  She was very giving and always shared, from bringing us fruit, veggies, a couple candy  bars , and other goodies during our 35 years here.
Her love for all her family,  God, and friends was beautiful.
