Maggie was born April 6, 1952, in Groningen, Netherlands to Jon and Grace Veldstra. In 1957, she immigrated with her family to the United States and settled in Escalon, CA, where the Veldstra family worked as dairy farmers. She later attended Ripon Christian High School before moving to Fresno.
Maggie is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Charles William (Bill) Welte, daughter Kasi Grietje Welte, son Nicholas Jon Welte, son in law Brian Baker, and daughter in law Karen Rodriguez Welte, her siblings Heidi Herman, Albert, Ben and Steve Veldstra.
She joins her father and mother Jon and Grace, and her sister Annetta and brother Ray in death.
Maggie recently retired from the Pacific Gardens Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, in Fresno, after over 50 years of employment, in a variety of roles. Maggie was well known for her deep compassion and unwavering respect for the residents and families she touched.
Maggie was, first and foremost, a mother to Kasi and Nick, and wife to Bill. That was her joy and they were her focus. Maggie instilled in her children the values she held most dear – love, loyalty, and showing up for the people who matter most. Maggie cherished life simple pleasures. She enjoyed tending to her garden, loving animals, reading a good crime/mystery novel, and trips to the ocean.
Maggie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by those that knew and loved her.
There will be a graveside service for Maggie at 11:00 AM at Fresno Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 175 S Cornelia Ave, Fresno, CA 93706 on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, followed by a reception at 1pm at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns and Blair Funeral Home - 836 E. Nees Ave, Fresno, CA 93720.
