Marianne O'Day

Marianne O’Day was born on April 13, 1949, in Hessen, Germany, to Reinhold and Meta Hofer. She passed away on September 30, 2026, in Fresno, California.

At the age of three, Marianne immigrated to the United States with her parents and brother, Fred, with the support of the Lutheran Church. She grew up on her family’s grape farm in Easton, California, and graduated from Washington Union High School.

Following high school, Marianne earned her cosmetology license and met her future husband, Jack O’Day. The two married and welcomed two sons, Jason and Michael. Marianne worked as a hairstylist in salons for several years before eventually starting her own mobile hairstyling business.

Marianne and Jack later embarked on a new chapter together, opening Fat Jack’s, a 1950s-style drive-in restaurant with locations in Fresno and Clovis, California. Marianne devoted more than 30 years to operating the family business alongside her loved ones.

Outside of work, Marianne found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren, Jackson and Jaycie. She also loved caring for her bird, gardening, and taking trips to Cayucos to relax by the beach. Known for her kindness, generosity, and loving spirit, Marianne was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Affectionately known as “Ama” to her grandchildren, she will be remembered for the love she shared with her family and those around her. She will be deeply loved and missed by all who knew her.

Marianne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack O’Day; her parents, Reinhold and Meta Hofer; and her sister, Toni Hofer.

She is survived by her sons, Jason O’Day and Michael O’Day; daughter-in-law, Sandy O’Day; grandson, Jackson O’Day; granddaughter, Jaycie O’Day; brother, Ferdinand Hofer; sister-in-law, Antje Hofer; aunt, Hannah Giese; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A Committal Service will be held at Clovis Cemetery District, 305 N Villa Ave, Clovis, CA 93612, US, on October 14, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
