Marilyn was born in Porterville, CA and raised on a farm, the youngest of three children. After high school, she moved to Fresno to attend Fresno State College, graduating with her teaching credential. After teaching high school art classes in San Francisco, she and Bob returned to the Valley to raise their family. Years later, Marilyn resumed her teaching career at Kerman Floyd Elementary School. Upon retirement, she continued her passion for teaching in the form of tutoring children in reading while also sharing her love of crafts and Bible lessons with them. In addition, she was very active in her volunteer work through Care Fresno (Amber Way). She was a member of Northwest Church, dedicating her time to preschool Sunday School classes and baking cakes for many memorial services. Marilyn was an avid knitter and donated countless knit caps to Valley Children’s Hospital over the years.
A 100th birthday party was held in her honor on February 22, 2025 at a local restaurant with several generations of family present.
Marilyn was fortunate to call The Terraces at San Joaquin Gardens her home for the past 11 years and cherished the many friendships she made there.
Marilyn is survived by her three children, Corinne Claverie (Brian), Sarah Slaughter (John) and Brian Claverie (Kellie); four grandsons, seven great-grandchildren, nieces and a nephew.
