Marilyn Piane Polard

Marilyn Piane Polard, 95, passed away peacefully at 1:13 a.m. on July 4, 2026. Born in New York City in 1930, Marilyn developed a love of the arts at an early age, studying ballet at the American Academy and taking piano lessons as a child. She graduated from New York University in 1952 with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing. While at NYU, she met her future husband, Arthur Paul Polard, who happened to be seated beside her in their business classes. Their chance meeting led to a marriage that spanned more than 50 years.

Marilyn and Arthur welcomed their first child, Steven, in 1954, followed by Lauren in 1956 and Lynda in 1963. In 1958, they settled in Orangeburg, New York, where they raised their family until 1971. During those years, Marilyn earned her graduate teaching certification from St. Dominic's College, was an active member of St. Catherine's Parish, and supported the Orangeburg Volunteer Fire Department, where Arthur served as a volunteer firefighter.

In 1971, the family relocated to Prairie Village, Kansas, after Arthur joined the corporate office of Hallmark Cards. Marilyn embraced her new community, forming lasting friendships while creating a warm and welcoming home.

An avid reader throughout her life, Marilyn was also an accomplished bridge player who enjoyed nearly every kind of card game. She remained physically active well into her later years, starting with following Jack LaLanne's exercises in the 1960s. Swimming, golf and a commitment to staying fit contributed to her remarkable health and longevity.

Marilyn was known for her intelligence, warmth, quick wit, and gift for conversation. Together, she and Arthur had a talent for making friends wherever they went and delighted in sharing stories and laughter. Her greatest joy came from spending time with those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur, in 2008.

Marilyn is survived by her three children: Steven Polard of California; Lauren O'Connell of Colorado; and Lynda Troccoli of Colorado; their spouses, Dr. Andrea Polard, Tim O'Connell, and Vincent Troccoli; and her brother Michael Piane and seven grandchildren: Sophia, Tristan, and Karla Polard; Kelley O'Neal; Dr. Brennan O'Connell; Vincent Troccoli Jr.; and Andrew Troccoli.

Marilyn will be laid to rest beside Arthur at St. Peter's Cemetery in Fresno, California on July 27th
