Marjorie “Marge” Eloise Cobbe Westwood, 87, of Fresno passed away March 24, 2019.
Marge resided at Atria Senior Living in Fresno from January 2017 until her passing. A
43 year resident of Kings County, from 1974 to 2017; Marge was born the eldest of four
children on October 3, 1931 in Delhi, New York. She moved with her family to Southern
California, on December 8, 1941 - the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. This,
despite fears of their New York family, who thought invasion of the west coast was
imminent. After arriving in Southern California, Marge’s family settled in Monrovia,
where she graduated from MAD (Monrovia, Arcadia, Duarte) High School in 1950 and
started work as an accountant. 1950 is also the year she met her future husband, Cecil
Eugene Westwood; they were married December 29, 1951. Cecil and Marge continued
building their lives in Orange and Riverside counties, with Marge working in accounting
while also being a Girl Scout troop leader for her two daughters. She moved with her
family to Lemoore in 1974, where Cecil took a position with PG&E and Marge took an
accounting position with Fleetwood Enterprises in Visalia.
The Lemoore years were great times of family life and projects. Marge was a skilled
seamstress who also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. In 1975, Marge decided to
become a licensed tax preparer and opened her own bookkeeping and tax service in
Lemoore. She worked in this field, first with her own business and then helping other
accountants and tax preparers as needed, into the late 1990s. After retiring, Marge and
Cecil enjoyed traveling, golfing, and square dancing. They downsized to a home in
Hanford with less acreage in 2000. Marge became very active in genealogy and
enjoyed spending time researching her family history and tending to her grandchildren.
She also provided invaluable tax and financial advice to her family and friends.
She leaves loving memories and laughs to be cherished by her sister, Beverly Cardona;
children: Brian, Diane, and Cheryl; sons-in-laws Danny and Curt; and grandchildren
Seth, Chelsea, Dalton, and Ian. She was predeceased by Cecil, her loving husband of
64 years, who passed in January 2016; an infant son, Gary Lee; her parents, and one
sister and brother.
We, her family will miss her wisdom and humor. She was a beloved sister, wife, mother,
grandmother, and friend. Services are private. Family and friends are invited to view
