Our beautiful and cherished wife, mother, sister and aunt, Marlene Marie Frye, passed away on September 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Marlene was born in Glendale, California on January 30, 1954, to Louis and Dorothy Makley. She was the second of five daughters. She grew up in a family that was strong in their commitment to each other and in which there was much love and laughter.
Marlene attended San Joaquin Memorial High School where she met her husband, Dennis, as well as many life-long friends whom she loved and treasured. Marlene graduated from California State University, Fresno in 1976, and went on to work in administration office at Fresno State until her retirement in 2015. She and Dennis were married on June 25, 1977.
Marlene was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lou and Dorothy. She is survived by her loving husband Dennis Frye, her daughter Brittany Kunz, her son Tyson Frye and her two grandchildren, Justin and Taylor Kunz. She is also survived by her sisters Rosemary McGuire, Eileen Makley, Kathleen Lucas, and Mary Wigh and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Marlene was completely devoted to her family. She and Dennis just celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. They have been together since they were sixteen years old. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister and was always there for her family and friends.
Although Marlene was born with a heart condition and dealt with health issues most of her life, she never let it slow her down. She was always the first person to reach out to family and friends when they were in need or to meet for breakfast or lunch or just get together for a visit. She hosted large family events including Christmas Eve, an event that family and friends looked forward to every year. She gave so much to the people she loved, and we were all blessed to have her in our lives.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at St. Agnes Hospital Emergency Room, for their compassion and assistance while Marlene was in the hospital. Their kindness was so appreciated.
We will miss Marlene terribly, but we know that she is pain free and at peace. She will forever be in our hearts.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
