Mary Chavana Avila, 81, of Fresno, CA, was born on May 12, 1944, in Edcouch, Texas. Mary grew up with deep roots in the Central Valley. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert, and together they shared 60 years of love and devotion.
Being a wife and mother was one of Mary’s greatest joys. She cherished her role as the mother of their two sons, Bobby and Ricky. She embraced being “Grandma,” delighting in every moment with her grandchildren; Robert, Ricky, Justin, Alyssa, and Brittany — and her great-grandson, Ryder. She also leaves behind her sisters Julie, Hope, Lupe, Janie, and Estela, along with her daughters-in-law, April and Yvette, who will forever cherish her memory.
A visitation will be held on October 21, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home, located at 836 E. Nees Ave., Fresno, CA 93720. During this time, the Recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place at 6:00 pm.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be taking place on October 22, 2025, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Victory Church, 2838 N West Ave, Fresno, CA 93705. Following the mass, a graveside service will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, 264 N Blythe Ave, Fresno, CA 93706, at 11:30 am.
Serving as pallbearers are as listed: Justin Avila, Mario Hernandez, Alyssa Avila, Ramiro Chavana Jr., Robert Avila Jr., Ralphie Trejo, and John Dennis Baptista.
Mary's memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
