Mary Huie Sit, beloved wife and mother, passed away on October 21, 2021 at home surrounded by family. She was born on May 31, 1956 in Hong Kong and was the youngest of three children. As a young woman, Mary and her family moved to Duluth, Minnesota to join her father. She was a graduate of Central High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. After graduation from college, Mary met Sam Sit through mutual friends. They wed the following year in 1985, and recently celebrated 36 years of marriage. After getting married, Mary moved to Fresno, California and worked at the IRS for a few years before giving birth to her daughter, Melissa, who was Mary’s greatest pride and joy.
Mary was a loving, selfless and generous person who was fully dedicated to her family and she never hesitated to put others above herself. She was a devoted mother who frequently helped out at school, and enjoyed a special bond and close friendship with her daughter. She was an excellent cook and often made food for family, friends, and Melissa and Sam’s coworkers. Her homemade meals were legendary and earned praises from all who had the opportunity to taste her cooking. Mary also enjoyed traveling, fine dining and shopping. She loved to go wine tasting, and the family took many vacations to Napa Valley and Paso Robles, as well as memorable, extended trips to Europe, Asia and Hawaii. Family and friends will dearly miss her witty intelligence, sense of style and humor, thoughtfulness and unrelenting strength.
She is survived by her husband Sam and daughter Melissa. She is also survived by her brother Yiu Ping Huie (Lee), her sister Mee Sheung Chan (Paul), niece Wai Huie (Jeremy), nephew Eric Huie (Harvey), nephew Eddie Huie (Erin), niece Susan Chan (Jack) and niece Anna Chan (Jake).
