Mary was a good friend throughout high school and college.  She gave me a wedding shower with her friend Joanne in 1976.  I received a newsletter every Christmas.  I wondered what happened this year.  I'm so sorry for the family's loss.  Mary lived for her nieces and nephews.  May the Lord give you peace in this time of sorrow.

I didn't work with Mary, but I saw her frequently as She made the rounds in the Service Center building.  Always had a smile on Her face & a  great attitude about her. Lots of friends. Since moving back to Utah,  I've been kept up to date by a lovely woman.  Luani Rutherford.  Thanks loads!

Hi, my name is Marina DeLaRosa Fernandez, Mary's mom Helen and my mom Carmen DeLaRosa, worked together, it seems like forever, at the Dept of Social Services, the DeLaRosa and the Vaux families pretty much grew up together, everybody went to McLane HS, but me, and we all went to the Office quad, which now has buildings on it, to watch the 4th of July fireworks and picnic, coming from the Fairgrounds, and then of course, we all saved bottlecap liners for the fair, the rides were discounted and entrance was sometimes FREE, talk about dating myself, lol, and there was always those football, baseball games, choir recitals, church and candy bar fundraisers.
RIP Mary Vaux, you will be missed.

I just read your obituary! Even though I never met you God has a special place in heaven for you because you were an animal lover! You must’ve taken in strays and domestic kitties and gave them warmth & compassion! Now it’s your turn! Rest in heaven and know that God takes care of considerate people such as you! RIP. Mary, it has taken me a few days to write this, as I really wasn't certain how to do this goodbye thing.  Everyone told us how we would deal with the loss of our Mothers and our siblings. How things would work in retirement. (Yes we did enjoy it).  Survive COVID, including shortage of everything we enjoyed.  That would include, not being able to go to the book store or even the library.  God gave us nieces and nephews, even gave us both great ones too.  Then we weren't allowed to see them during lockdown.  We survived it all, include making it to 70!! Now someone needs to tell me how to stop texting, calling and missing my Best Friend!!! Talking to you each night as I say my prayers isn't the same thing as talking to you in person.  I know you are at peace and in heaven with your family, including all your cats.  I want to thank you for the gift of your friendship over the years, as it was truly a blessing.   Goodbye my friend until we meet up again in heaven and start swapping books again.

I first met Mary at the IRS over 35 years ago and knew her from the church we attended. She was full of joy and had a personality that was welcoming and affirming. Such a loving person! May she rest in peace.

As I was looking at photos of Mary Vaux, I was reminded of what she had left behind.
 
A million and one photos it seemed, of her smiling next to her two nieces, Stephanie and Alison, and nephew Alex. At the zoo, feeding the tortoise. Making cookies, creating slime, celebrating birthdays, watching swim lessons in Fresno’s 100 degree heat. Holding the four great nieces and nephews as babies: Evan, Celia, Madeline, and Logan. Decorating the Christmas tree with Alex and then a generation later with little Madeline.
Reading to them, collecting eggs at Easter, Thanksgiving meals. We found an envelope with every program she had saved after attending Alex’s play performances over a period of twenty-two years. Basketball games, graduations, a plethora of gifts from the Dollar Store accumulated over the year as shopping for my children and grandchildren was her physical activity. And in every single photo, a beautiful smile.
 
And two days before her death a smiling Aunt Mary from her hospital bed telling me how blessed she was for her two best friends and did I know what a wonderful son I had. And that she would NOT give up her kitties! Being with her in her last few days I saw someone who was at peace. At peace with the life she had chosen and the memories she left behind.
