With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Matthew E. Anderson, age 86, who passed away surrounded by the love of his family.
Born to his beloved parents, (Ida) Esther Eskola and Martin Theodore Anderson who preceded him in death, Matt grew up as an only child and carried throughout his life a strong sense of independence, resilience, and kindness. He devoted an extraordinary 64 years to his career, earning the respect and friendship of countless coworkers along the way. His biggest sense of pride was seeing others succeed.
For the past 53 years, Ridgecrest was not just where he lived, but where he belonged. He loved his town and took great pride in its people and history. A passionate supporter of the local museum, he appreciated preserving the stories of the past and sharing them with future generations.
Matt had a special place in his heart for animals, particularly the old rescue dogs that others often overlooked, and the horses along his nightly walking route, always a few carrots to spoil them. He welcomed his rescues with patience and compassion, giving them comfort, dignity, and a loving home in their later years
He found joy in life's simple pleasures: a great meal, a Saturday spent watching college football while occasionally "resting his eyes," and, most of all, time spent with family. Nothing made him happier than being surrounded by the people he loved. If you asked him about his life, it was catalogued along the cars he owned in each phase of his life, his daughters have fond memories of holding flashlights while he used his engineering skills to "fix" his old cars, never needing to waste money on a mechanic.
He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife Andrea Pelch, his three daughters Teresa Carole Linney (Husband Louis), Erin Dawn Scheidt (Husband Mike Prestridge), Jenise Anderson (Husband John Harms) and five grandchildren: Alex Castrovillari (Shawn), Jared Linney (Bridget), Morgan Melton (Logan), Audra Linney, and Ike Harms; two step-grandsons (Donald and Daniel Prestridge), and three great-grandchildren (Katerina, Luca, and August), with two more eagerly awaited additions to the family. He is also survived by his former wife and lifelong friend Carole, whose enduring friendship remained an important part of his life, as well as numerous lifelong friends and colleagues whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Those who knew Matt will remember his steady presence, generous heart, sharp wit, and unwavering loyalty. His legacy lives in the family he cherished, the community he loved, the animals he opened his heart and home to, and the many friendships he nurtured throughout his remarkable life.
He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
"A life measured not only by years, but by the lives touched along the way."
