Mr. Matthew Paul Beshwate

April 2, 1960January 23, 2014

Matthew was born in Fresno on April 2, 1960. From this day he enriched the lives of everyone who had the pleasure to know him. As a teen, Matt was involved with the Special Olympics and won several medals in swimming. He was like a fish when he entered the water and it was sometimes difficult to get him out.

Matt loved Elvis, and did an awesome impersonation of him. He performed singing Elvis tunes at all of the family gatherings with willing sisters and nieces acting as backup singers, or giddy fans in the audience. He always said he was the "New King of Rock-n-Roll."

Matt was charismatic and loved to make friends. While grocery shopping with his mother, he would chat with the cashiers and help to bag groceries, this soon landed him a job at SaveMart where he worked for 15 years as a service clerk.

Matt was zealous in his spirituality and served as an altar boy and Eucharistic Minister at St. Paul Catholic Newman Center for many years.

"When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." Khalil Gibran

On January 23, 2014, Matthew left our world to meet up with his father, Ted; his brother, Ted Jr.; his sister, Patricia Marie; and all of his grandparents.

He leaves behind his loving and devoted mother, Betty; his adoring and dedicated sister Cathy Gray, who selflessly cared for him these past seven months, along with her husband Bill; his ardent sister, Lourdine Skillin and his niece Madison, who were also committed to his care; his sister, Mary Cheary who traveled weekly to offer support and respite and her husband John; his brothers, Kelly and his wife Jan, Rick and his wife Jackie, Stephen and his wife Sheryl; brother-in-law, Roger Skillin; his sisters, Barbara Thornton, Anita Dempsey and her husband Alan; sister-in-law, Teresa Beshwate as well as 21 nieces and nephews; and 25 great nieces and nephews.

Gosh where do I start? I first met Matthhew at I wanna say Albertsons, but then it later turned into a SaveMart. I remember him dressing up as Elvis and he could sing a mean streak out of him! Always said Hi always had a positive way about him. Always asked how my kids were doing. I am sorry to hear of his passing. He is truely amazing!

To the sweetest man I have ever known. You are my Steve Austin and I'm your Jamie Summers! You had my heart the day mom brought you home. I know you are shining down on me from heaven and there is no more pain. Please put in a good word for me with the big guy, and no I don't mean Elvis. I will always picture your smiling face and feel the joy you brought to all who had the pleasure to meet you. I think now is the time to pop the question to Cathy Mullins...she has been waiting for you. I love you so much and can't wait until we meet again. Your loving sister "Babrah"

Matthew was and is my friend (Luke 20:38) He was fun to work with. His innocence and honesty was refreshing. I will miss spending time with him. He was so fortunate to have such a caring mother and family. I thank them for letting me be a part of Matthew's life.

Matthew was a well-loved parishioner at St. Paul Newman Center. During my years there, he was a faithful altar server and Eucharistic Minister. He never failed to remind me of how great Elvis Presley was and I agreed! On one occasion, I went shopping at Savemart and Matthew was bagging groceries. When he saw me he said to the check-out clerk, "He's my father!" He meant "Father" as in Catholic priest. The clerk looked at me rather strangely thinking I was his father! Matthew was full of surprises and good humor. He was as faithful a man as anyone I've known. I will miss his smiling face and friendly disposition. My prayers and love to Betty and the entire Beshwate family during this time.

Matthew Paul "Sheshate" The sweetest angel on this earth. When I was born (the first grandchild in this crazy family) you were 5 years old. We were like 2 peas in a pod. You watched over me and we cracked up all the time. When my girls Alex and Tylar came along you loved on them, played with them, and watched over them just like you did with me. They will remember your sweetness always! We spent hours playing cars when we were little and recently as well. We looked at pictures, cut up magazines, sang and danced. I was " A little bit country" and you were "A little bit Rock n Roll" with our fake microphones and guitars. A few big moments I remember were when you sang at my wedding and at my 40th surprise birthday party at Harrah's South Lake Tahoe Center Stage!! You were truly a star! I've always felt a special bond with you and will cherish each and every moment spent with you in my heart for the rest of my life. You always brought such joy to me, you were easy to tease (especially with frogs) and have fun with. My life will forever be changed without you here. I am so grateful I was able to come and help take care of you and spend time with you and Grandma this summer. At times it was difficult, but you still shined your special love and light on me. I have peace knowing you are whole again, no more suffering, singing and dancing for Jesus and our family in heaven. Maybe even Elvis himself!! I know Grandpa and Uncle T welcomed you with hugs. Until we meet again Uncle Matt I will miss you with all my heart and soul! I LOVE YOU xoxo
