

Over the years, Maurine attended three state teachers colleges. She became a Master Teacher of Elementary Education and taught in Oklahoma City and Tahlequah, OK, before moving to California in 1964. In California, she participated in extended studies at Ventura College, University of California, Santa Barbara, and California Lutheran University. Maurine worked as a teacher for ten years for the Ventura Unified School District. She retired early from the school district in order to spend more time with her husband, O.J Carter. During the next five years, she participated in part time work for the school district and spent countless days traveling, seeing much of America and visiting family members.
O.J. and Maurine were active members of the Southern Baptist Church for more than 25 years. Additionally, she served as president of the Women's Missionary Union for six years. Maurine especially enjoyed friendships, sewing, craft work and writing poetry. In 2006, Maurine moved to Fresno to live closer to her family.
Maurine was preceded in death by her husband, O.J. Carter; her parents; her twin sister Maxine; her older sister Golda; four wonderful brothers, Frank, Guy "Peet", Price and Paul Townsend; and her daughter, Jan Laree Brown.
Maurine is survived by her son, David Doty of Coarsegold, CA; and her grandchildren, Cori Brown, Jenny Breen and her husband Jon of Sacramento, CA, and David Doty II and his wife Emi of Fresno. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Nicklas, Tarina, twins, Ian and Ashlynn of the Breen family, and Cori Brown's son, Agustin Guerrero. Maurine is also survived by her nephew, Guy Townsend; four nieces, Patsy Townsend, Lynn Townsend, Guyniece Ragland and Nancy Bell; O.J.'s extended family; and a host of caring friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be held at Stephens and Bean Chapel on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held at Stephens and Bean Chapel on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Stephens & Bean Chapel.
Maurine Townsend Doty Carter was born on March 18, 1921, in Burneyville, OK, to George and Minnie Townsend. She lived there until she graduated from Burneyville High School in 1939.
