Born in Sioux Falls, SD, Michael came to Fresno in 1947 with his parents and sisters where he quickly became the bat boy for the then Fresno Cardinals minor league baseball team. His tenure as bat boy started a life long passion for all things baseball and in particular, the San Francisco Giants. He graduated in 1955 from Fresno High, then attended Fresno City College for two years. He then joined the U.S Army in 1957 and served until 1961 plus two years of Army Reserve, receiving his degree in journalism at Fresno State University. He started his career at the Fresno Bee from 1961 to 1967 before moving on to KMJ/KSEE Channel 24, becoming a lead reporter on the nightly news, then top political reporter for the Central Valley. He worked at Channel 24 from 1967 to 2012 and was Managing Editor for the last several years before retirement. He also volunteered his time at Ms Winkles Pet Adoption Center in Clovis.
He is survived by wife, Patricia, son, Michael Hartman, step-son Robert Wyatt, sisters Marnie Nunes and Carla Bendoski.
A private service was held on August 22.
