Born on April 6, 1937, in Olean Cattarways County, New York, Nancy lived a life rooted in faith, love, and devotion. Nancy lived in Fresno, California for the past 41 years. Her relationship with God was the foundation of her life, guiding her through every season with grace, strength, and quiet trust. She found great joy in studying Scripture, especially in the areas of Bible prophecy and theology, and her deep faith was reflected in the way she lived and loved others. She had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge of end time bible prophecy which all began with Pastor G.L. Johnson introducing her to “Late Great Planet Earth” by author Hal Lindsey. Pastor Johnson led Nancy to know Jesus as her personal Savior and Lord. She in turn led many people to know Jesus including her own family members.
Nancy worked for many years at Covergirl Clothing Store and McDonalds Department Store, which later became Gottschalks in Fig Garden Village. In every place she worked, she carried with her a gentle spirit and a servant’s heart.
Music was one of Nancy’s greatest gifts and callings. She began with a used Kimball parlor grand piano, and in the last 25 years of her life, the Lord blessed her with the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. She purchased her beloved 150th anniversary limited edition Steinway concert grand piano. She used her talents to teach piano, sharing not only music but also encouragement and joy with her students. Music was one of the ways she expressed her love for God.
Nancy was an avid reader, with bookshelves full of treasured volumes spanning Bible study, theology, mysteries, and historical fiction. Her thirst for knowledge was deeply tied to her desire to better understand God’s Word and His plan.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frances Edward “Frank” Thayer, who passed away in 1944 when Nancy was just seven years old, and her mother, Edna May Olin-Thayer, who passed away in 1977. Nancy was the youngest survivor of eight children until she succumbed to overwhelming rebound septic shock.
She is survived by her beloved children and grandsons: Suzanne Marie Braun-Dunlap and her husband Randy Dunlap, Laura Ann Day and her husband Gary and their two sons Christopher Daniel and James Andrew, and Ruth Evangeline Cross and her husband Thomas and their two sons Samuel Kenyon and Paul Alan. Her family was a great blessing to her, and she prayed faithfully for them throughout her life.
Nancy married Daniel Kenyon Green on December 21, 1957, and together they built a life centered on faith and family for forty-four years. Daniel passed away December 21, 2023 in Thornton, CO.
A graveside service will be held on March 25, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Clovis Cemetery, 305 N Villa Avenue, Clovis, CA 93612. There will be a luncheon to follow at Fresno Breakfast House at 2 p.m., 2085 W Bullard Avenue, Fresno, CA 93711.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Bella Care and their compassionate staff for the loving care they provided. We are deeply indebted to their support, love, compassion, and care provided for Nancy’s last four years of life. Unfortunately, Alzheimer’s robbed mom’s joy and quality of life for the last years while at Bella Care.
Family and friends are invited to view Nancy’s legacy and share condolences at www.whitehurstsullivan.com.
In lieu of flowers, Nancy wished that donations be made to The Well Church Cultivate Fund.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
Nancy’s life was a testament to her faith, and while she will be deeply missed, her family rejoices in the promise that she is now at peace in the presence of the Lord she loved so dearly.
