Mr. Decker started his career in education at St. Alphonso's School in Fresno and continued at Orange Center School in Fresno and ended it with 25 years as Principal and Superintendent at Laton Unified School District in Fresno County. He positively influenced the lives of thousands of children with his dedication to education and self-improvement and helping young people reach for the stars. His greatest legacy was what he did for others, always the helper, the giver, the friend. He will be missed by anyone lucky enough to have known him, his smile, his sense of humor and his genuineness.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diana; sons Tim J. Decker of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Scott A. Decker and wife Maria, of Clovis; and daughter Katherine Decker of Fresno. He is also survived by grandchildren, Michael Hill, Jadyn Garrett, and Nicholas Decker and great-granddaughter Neelia Grace Hill, all of Fresno. In addition a sister; Margo Bellman and a brother Gordon survive in Michigan, along with many nieces; and nephews both in California and Michigan.
A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Paul Catholic Newman Center on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society or the individual's favorite charity.
