Paul William Moore

Paul William Moore was born in Chico, CA and raised in Manteca in a lively household with his two sisters. He grew up happy playing with his gang of neighborhood friends and riding motorcycles in the desert. Paul graduated with two Bachelor's Degrees, one from CSU Fresno in Social Studies and another in English Literature/Teaching from the University of Montana. His passion for travel and adventure led him to work abroad in both London and in Japan. He met his future wife and lifelong partner in crime Marcia Bernardo at San Joaquin Delta College while taking Japanese Language and physical conditioning classes. The two dated for two years while living in Japan and, upon return to the US, married surrounded by friends and family. In 2004, they welcomed a son Andrew into their lives and Paul relished his new role as a father. He and Andrew shared endless adventures traveling across California to skateparks. Watching his son ride the scooter and grow up into a fine young man was his greatest pride. Paul taught English Language Arts at Kerman High School for 24 years. He was proud to have taught every grade and was beloved by students and faculty alike.

Paul was a man of many passions. He loved photography even winning a competition for the Fresno Zoo Title Page. He always gladly volunteered to be a photographer at anyone's party, wedding, or event, free of charge, service with a smile. Music was deeply meaningful to him and he loved expressing himself through playing one of his many guitars. However, cycling was his obsession. He even turned his love of fixing bikes into a second job at REI. His many cycling feats included riding across country twice, touring Great Britain by bike, and conquering grueling rides including the Climb to Kaiser, the Markleeville Death Ride, and The Race Across America.

Above all though, Paul's biggest passion was for his family, for his wife and his son. For his parents, siblings and relatives, for his friends both old and new, for his students, for his co-workers and his schools. He was kind, generous, energetic, ambitious, open-minded, curious, welcoming, and nurturing. He was a gifted writer, storyteller and had a great sense of humor. He surrounded people with love and was surrounded by love in return. He will be dearly missed by everyone.

Paul entered eternal life on January 12, 2022 and is survived by his Wife Marcia Moore, Son Andrew Moore, Mother Ruth Evelyn Moore, Sisters Diana Durham (Jim) and Pam Runge (Mike), extended family members, friends, colleagues, students, and the Fresno cycling community.
