Pia Elisa Vitucci Cercone

Elisa was born in the village of Pacentro, Italy to Rocco Vitucci and Concetta Ciccone, on July 29, 1940. From a young age she was known for her strength and courage as she was sent to Coraopolis, Pennsylvania in 1962 to help her older sister Lilianna navigate motherhood with multiple young children.

While helping her sister she met and married Nicola Cercone the following year. Her strength and courage as an immigrant, new bride and new mother continued to be demonstrated as she moved to Alexandria, Virginia and eventually made it to Fresno, California in 1966.

Elisa is survived by her son, Pietro (Pete), daughter Annarita Cercone Howell and son Nicola (Nick), son-in-law, John Howell; grandchildren, Giustino, Vittoria, Logan, Marie and Nicola; and her great-grandchild, Emmett. She is predeceased by her child Paula Teresa.

God Bless and watch over you Mom and Nonna, you will now be with your daughter you never got to know and all your siblings, family and friends in heaven.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
