Raymond (Ray) White was born in Fresno, grew up in Raisin City and lived for most of his life in the city of Fresno. On July 6, 2025, Ray went to his eternal home in heaven to be with his Savior and Lord, Christ Jesus.
Ray graduated from Caruthers High School in 1946, then served in the U.S. Navy as a radarman seaman on the destroyer, USS Southerland, during the Korean War from 1949 to 1953. After he returned home, he went to work for Pacific Bell and after 37 years of working with the company, he retired in 1990.
After retiring, Ray and his wife, Wanda, purchased a new motorhome and traveled all over the country during the next 15 years. They made many memories going to many beautiful and interesting places and visiting many friends along the way. They were married for 54 years until Wanda’s passing in 2008.
Ray met Floretta two years later, and they married and spent 11 happy years together until Floretta’s passing in 2022.
Ray had been an active member of Peoples Church since the early 1960s. He served in many church ministries and also participated in many other activities throughout the years.
Ray was well-thought-of by everyone who knew him. He was known as being kind and friendly and always ready to help in times of need, even if only by sharing an encouraging word. He will be missed.
He is survived by his son, Jim, and wife, Laurie, five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda, son Doug, and wife Floretta.
Due to severe illness, Ray came to live with his son, Jim, and his wife, Laurie, in their home. He recovered during this time and eventually moved to an assisted living senior apartment, and then to a residential care home where he lived for a short time before his passing.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Peoples Church, located at 7172 N Cedar Ave, Fresno, CA, 93720, US, on July 18, 2025, starting at 11:00 am.
