Thank you, Kuya Rene, for teaching me how to play Blackbird on the guitar when I was a teenager. Your patience showed how willing you were to help me learn it. Thanks for your kindness, all the laughs and good times with the fam. Rene is an epitome of a best friend. I met my then boyfriend— now husband Al — in 1988. Not long after he introduced me to his best friend, Rene. I told Rene that my best friend, Doris, liked him, and I told Doris that Rene liked her. Little did I know that love would blossom instantly. Within a few months they fell deeply in love and made their way to the altar! A short engagement but a forever Groovy kinda love! I never doubted his love to Doris. They’re both so much in love. He made her laugh each moment. Besides his quick wit of jokes, he entertained us with his amazing voice in karaoke. He was one of the best groomsmen and Doris one of the best bridesmaids!  He sang “Always and Forever” in our wedding. The four of us became fantastic four, then Cora and Boyet we became Fabulous six: from college days, to migrating in the U.S., to sharing one roof in Glendale as we started our career, to our children’s birthdays and graduations, he never failed to be the best friend we have. We’re family! 
We remember our visit to Balesin Island and Batanes with the rest of the bffs, it was unending laughter and joy with him! He’s the life of the family! 
Oh boy Rene, I’ve tried a number of times writing this, and always ended up sobbing and missing you more. 
Al and I and the whole family will miss you so much Rene. It feels especially poignant that you left in this world on a date so deeply significant to us — our 33rd wedding anniversary.  From now on, that day will forever hold both joyful memories and heartfelt sorrow. Though your passing has added sadness to that day, Pare, your friendship and the memories we shared will forever remain in our hearts. 

We choose to hold on to the hope we found in Christ. I believe Rene accepted Christ as his Savior, and because of that blessed hope, we look forward to seeing him again on Christ’s second coming. 

Until then rest in peace, ever dearest friend. You will never be forgotten.

When we were growing up in our subdivision in the Philippines, Rene was part of our tight-knit group of friends. Rene hung out with us often, guitar in hand, ready to play along to anything on the radio.  Rene was mild‑mannered, but never quiet in spirit. He was sharp and quick with a comeback.  Those afternoons spent telling stories of silly antics and singing with him—voices loud, laughter everywhere—are memories I’ll always hold close.  May our dear friend Rene rest in eternal peace.

Pops and Tita Dor visited the Philippines while I was going to college there. We were talking about their plans during their stay so that we can find some time to meet up. Pops said he was going to the province to visit family and he invited me along. He said that it wasn’t a big trip and that it was just family but he wanted me to come along because he considers me as family too. Instead of seeing me as just a friend of his son’s, he took it a step further and considered me as part of the family. That just goes to show the kind of person he is and the love he gives. I will never forget that moment and I will cherish it forever. I am honored to have met such a wonderful person, you will be missed Pops. Love you

I had the privilege of working with Sir Rene at Children’s Hospital for about a year. He was always my go-to person whenever I had questions during my shift. No matter how busy he was, he was always willing to help. His advice wasn’t just about work—it was the kind of wisdom a father would lovingly share with his child.

The laboratory was always brighter because of his great sense of humor. He made work enjoyable and reminded us not to take life too seriously. Above all, Sir Rene was a man of deep faith, and it showed in the way he treated everyone with kindness, compassion, and generosity.

One memory I will always treasure is when he asked how my parents were doing back in the Philippines. When I told him about my Papa’s health condition, he gently encouraged me to visit him as soon as possible so I could still spend time with him. I’m forever grateful that I listened to his advice because I was there when my Papa was finally called Home.

I’ll never forget my last day at work before my flight. Sir Rene handed me an envelope and told me to accept it, spend it, and treat my Papa. That simple act of kindness spoke volumes about the kind of person he was. He didn’t even know my Papa personally, and we had only worked together for a short time, yet his compassion was so genuine and heartfelt.

Sir Rene had a beautiful soul, a generous heart, and an unshakable faith in God. His kindness touched so many lives, including mine. I will always be grateful for his guidance, his friendship, and the lasting impact he made on my life. Thank you so much sir Rene for everything . You’ll forever be missed.

Rene’s charisma was truly irresistible—warm, natural, and so genuine that people couldn’t help but lean in when he spoke. He had that rare kind of presence that made others feel both inspired and included, and whatever he set his mind to, his classmates were right there with him. Year after year, he was elected class president, and most of the time, he won the student body elections too. With a heavy heart, I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family of my "big brother" Rene. Words are not enough to ease the pain of losing someone so dear to all of us. Rene is the brother I never had. We shared a lot of memories even during those years when we both had nothing. Memories when we were still both struggling during our college days 'til he left for greener pasteur to build a good life and a better future for his family.  This page may not even be enough to let everyone know how deeply I have known Rene as a person----- highly intellectual, street smart, natural born funny guy, a singing buddy who played the guitar very well, respected by all his friends, a very responsible father, a very loving husband, a true friend , a brother. His closest friends all look up to him as someone who makes us laugh with his wit and the kind of sense of humor that he naturally- possess.   He was truly blessed. He lived a life well-lived . He took the cudgels with the early demise of his father. He supported himself to college until he got his break  and land  a job abroad .  He provided support  to everyone .  All his hardships and efforts paid off  . He was able to raise a beautiful family.  Something he can be proud of. Something his family can  take pride. 

Rene touched our lives in ways only  he can .  His memories will forever live in our hearts.

May all these remain a source of strength  and peace in the days ahead.

Rest in peace now Pareng Rene. Until we meet again. I love you my dear brother. I will miss you.
