OBITUARY

Richard A. Mahackian Jr.

July 25, 1956January 12, 2012

Richard passed away January 12, 2012 with his family by his side.

Ric was born July 25, 1956 in Fresno. He graduated from San Joaquin Memorial High School in 1974. At an early age, Ric exhibited artistic talents that ranged from drawing and painting to music. In high school, he was in the band and his love of music remained a passion throughout his life. He played the drums in the local band, Blurd Vision, and truly believed that music was good for the soul.

Ric also considered himself quite the chef and was always on the lookout for a new recipe to try. He had a talent for gardening and created his own private oasis wherever he called home. With all of his interests, Ric also went back to school and was working on completing his degree. He took great pride in his scholastic accomplishments.

Ric was a gentle soul who loved to joke and tease those of us lucky enough to be close to him. He will be missed...he left this world too soon.

He was preceded in death by this father Richard A. Mahackian Sr.

He is survived by his two children, Ric and Christine Mahackian. Besides his children, he is survived by his mother, Geraldine Mahackian; sisters, Susan Mahackian, Kathy Mahackian King and Mary Ann Yee; uncles, Lawrence Deran and Ronald Mahackian; and aunt, Nancy Mahackian. Other survivors left behind are Evelyn Vargas, her children and grandchildren and Vera Mendrin.

A Memorial Mass will be held at the Shrine of St. Therese Catholic Church on Saturday, January 21, 2012, at 10:00 a.m.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Mahackian family during these difficult times. Lil Ric, I'm so glad i was able to listen to you and your dad play music together. It was so awesome! Your dad was awesome. I still can't believe this is real, it feels like we're all in a funk and we'll all come out of it soon. I loved Ric. For many years i've held him close to my heart and i always will. I'll see you in paradise Ric, save a place for us.

My deepest condolences to all of you guys. I pray for God to give you the strength and courage to get thru this. When I heard the news, after the initial shock and pain of my Uncle Rick's passing (Aka the villain in Hero Quest) 3 things came to mind: 1. Uncle Rick feels no more pain. 2. GOD has a plan for ALL of us, His children. & 3. Now we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also we believe that God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep as Christians. For we tell you this by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not go ahead of those who have fallen asleep. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-15 NET). All of you will be in my prayers. Uncle Rick will surely be missed. I love you guys......

My heart and prayers go out to Susan and the rest of the family on the passing of her brother Richard. You spoke of him many times when we worked together and I know you will greatly miss him in person but he will always be as near as your heart. Take care my friend always!

My thoughts and prayers are with the Mahackian family during these difficult times. Ric was a wonderful friend of 40+years and I will fondly remember our garage band jam sessions at the house after school. He always had a smile on his face and forever upbeat. I consider it an honor to have known him. He will be greatly missed.

Ric, "The Animal" nicknamed for the drummer from the Muppets, and you just had to see him smile with his wide eyes and you knew where the comparison came from. Ric played the same set of yellow drums from the 1970's on. He played with a lot of local musicians in Fresno. I am a better person for knowing you Ric, you kept your promise and called me, and I feel priviledged to have played with you in 3 bands. Rock on Ric, Keep on Jammin with Jimi

Rick Mahackian Jr. may have left this world for a better one, but, left behind two of his most treasured gifts, his two precious children Ric and Christine. To Ric he gave the gift of the love of music and to Christine her ability to be nonjudgemental and open minded. You will be greatly missed Rick. Your children will be a constant reminder of that part of you that is still with us. Rest in Peace

My deepest condolence to Ric's family. I knew Ric in grade school and SJM. Recently connected through FB and had run into shopping. Ric was always upbeat and positive. One of the good guys. Very sad for your loss truly the worlds loss.

Ric and I were friends for over thirty-two years. As young people we were idealistic, unrealistic, and just beginning in life; but even then Ric was real, truthful, kind, imaginative, and a buoyant spirit. The moment I met him I knew he was a kindred spirit. I am comforted to see, hear and read the wonderful images, videos, and memories of his comrad musicians who gave him encouragement, validation and creative energy, allowing him to thrive and grow. It gives me joy to know he was loved everyday, wherever he worked, and that his children were devoted to him. Ric: a gentle, true spirit that will always remind me of what life is truly about.
