I worked with Richard in the Technical Unit, IRS for many years. He was very knowledgeable and was always helpful. We enjoyed drinks at the Red Lantern and other bars many times. Good memories, bad memories - he will be missed.

Am honored to write that Richard was a friend for more than 50 years, dating back to when he was still a student at U.C. Davis.
Richard was my partner when I became a Life Master, I believe, and I played with him many times, but our friendship transcended bridge.
Once-upon-a-time, "Aces, Places, and Faces," the local unit's newsletter, was printed on mimeograph machine, and Richard and I had a joyous time putting together the publication. Though our age difference was only five years, we "held court" in the apartment where I lived with my wife, and young son. We laughed a lot and worked hard to make the publication "reader-friendly." An inside joke we had was to put the word "ubiquitous" in every issue, though probably no one ever noticed.
Richard's wry smile, quick wit, and his unique mannerism when he was making a point, or telling a bridge tale, are forever fixed in my memory.
Richard was quintessential in many things related to bridge :
player, partner, administrator, club owner, and teacher. But the two things that resonate most with me, and I think with all that new him, had nothing to do with bridge: "gentleman" and "friend." "Requiesce in pace," my beloved friend.
