Robert was born on September 19, 1932 in Pinedale, CA to Elizabeth and Domingo Gonzalez. He attended Pinedale Elementary School, San Joaquin Memorial High School, and Fresno High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and National Guard. He worked at Vendo in Pinedale for 42 years as an assembly line worker and sand blaster.
On September 28, 1955, he married the love of his life, Toni Guajardo and they were married for 64 years. They raised three daughters, Sylvia, Ruth, Elizabeth, and two sons, Leonard and Robert Jr.
Robert always shared his immense love and wisdom with his children, grandchildren, family members, friends, and anyone else that he would encounter. He looked forward to family gatherings and celebrations. Robert had an infectious charisma that would draw people to him, and he would in return, give them support, encouragement, and hope.
He loved nature and enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels and the changes in the weather. He was also an avid music lover and enjoyed listening to traditional Mexican folk music. He was a big sports fan and loyally watched the SF 49ers, SF Giants, and Fresno State Bulldog games.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Domingo, and his mother, Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife Toni, two sisters, Juanita and Rosita, his five children, Sylvia, Leonard, Ruth, Robert Jr., and Elizabeth, and 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren and many more family and friends.
A gathering at Whitehurst Funeral Home to celebrate Robert’s life will be on Monday, February 11th. The viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m., and the rosary will begin at 7 p.m. The funeral mass and burial will be on Tuesday, February 12th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, and the burial will follow immediately at the Clovis Cemetery.
