His parents were August and Katherine Youngman, Russian Germans from along the Volga River. They emigrated to the United States in 1908. Roger graduated from Edison High School in 1950. He joined the United States Navy after graduation and was honorably discharged in 1955.
Roger met “the love of his life” Vida Lingenfelter, after being introduced by his friend, Orin Lingenfelter, Vida’s brother. Roger and Vida were married on November 21, 1953.
Over the years, Roger was involved in school and sporting events that his children and grandchildren participated in. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; he will be greatly missed.
Roger worked for the Fresno Unified School District in the business office for 26 years and retired at the age of 55. Throughout the years, many family vacations were spent at Shaver Lake and Pismo Beach, where wonderful memories were created. After retirement, Roger and Vida enjoyed traveling in their motor home throughout the United States. Roger and Vida also spent countless hours of fun with friends from the Gypsy RV Club.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, August and Katherine, his sisters, Irene Burger (Art) and Paula Dakin, brothers, Edward Youngman (Phyllis), and Richard Youngman (Donna).
Surviving him is his wife of 72 years, Vida, their three children, JoAnn Clarkson (James), Kirk Youngman (Conni), and Eric Youngman (Pamela). He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Jackie Sweeny, Jake Clarkson (Letitia), and Carlie Smith (Jeff), and one great-grandchild, Emily Sweeny.
A graveside service honoring Roger will be held at Mountain View Cemetery, located at 1411 W. Belmont Avenue Fresno, CA 93728, on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
