Ronald Martin Holland, 79, of Salinas, California, passed away on September 4, 2026. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and a lifetime of memories that will continue to be shared for generations.
Born on March 23, 1947, in Fresno, Ron was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. But more than any title or accomplishment, Ron will be remembered for his devotion, faithfulness, patient demeanor, and a steady selflessness that showed most clearly in how he served others and cared for his family.
The greatest love of Ron’s life was his wife, Donna. They shared more than 58 years of marriage, building a life together filled with family, commitment, and countless memories. Through all of life’s seasons, Ron remained devoted to Donna and proud of the family they created together. His love for his children and grandchildren was an important part of who he was, and the family surrounding him today is one of the greatest reflections of the life he lived.
Ron played football at Fresno City College and West Texas State University, an experience that strengthened his discipline, leadership, and sense of teamwork—qualities he would later carry into his military career and his deep commitment to the men he had the privilege of leading.
Ron served his country as an Army Infantry and Aviation Officer with a distinction as an Airborne Ranger and Senior Aviator, flying UH-1 and OH-58 helicopters. He was commissioned through ROTC in 1971 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 23 years of honorable service. Throughout his career, his sense of duty and leadership earned the respect of those who served alongside him, while his selfless dedication remained rooted in a larger purpose beyond himself.
His commitment to service continued through his role as Executive Director of the Veterans Transition Center in Monterey, California, where he helped veterans overcome homelessness and other challenges, rebuild their lives, and achieve self-sufficiency. He remained dedicated to the veteran community until his retirement in 2013.
Faith played the most important role throughout Ron’s life. Serving in church communities from his youth in Fresno to military assignments across the globe. Including his 10 years as an Elder at the Alvin Drive Church of Christ in Salinas.
Ron enjoyed a love of history, he was an avid reader, and you could often find him playing games like Trivial Pursuit and Pictionary with kids and grandkids.
Ron is survived by his wife, Donna Holland; his daughter, Lori Hovet (Matthew); his sons, Ryan Holland and Joseph Holland (Kimberly McPherson); his brother, Bobby Holland. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Dylan, Allyson, Kyle, Haley, Ben, Ella, Reagan, Pippa, Phineas, and Cornelia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Winfred and Rosalie Holland.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at 10:00 am at Fresno Memorial Gardens 175 S. Cornelia Avenue, Fresno, CA 93706.
