With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Ruben Paul Contreras, who left this world on July 9, 2025, in Fresno, California, just days before his 40th birthday. He was surrounded by the love of his family and all those who held him close in their hearts.
He had a vibrant spirit and a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and loved. Ruben was the kind of person who could make a stranger feel like family. His warmth, humor, and kindness left a lasting mark on his many cousins, friends, nieces, and nephews. He was a proud fan of the San Francisco 49ers and found purpose while serving in fire camp during incarceration — a testament to his strength and the will to give back. No matter where life placed him, Ruben found a way to connect, to care, and to love.
Ruben now joins his beloved mother in eternal peace — a reunion long hoped for. He is survived by his father, Ruben; and his loving sisters: Jennifer, Jessica, and his “twin” Raquel. He also leaves behind his children, Jesse James, Bernadine, and his son and daughter who were lovingly adopted, as well as many extended family members and friends who will always carry his memory.
Ruben’s life reminds us that even in struggle, love endures. His purpose was to connect people, to love freely, and to show us that everyone — no matter their story — is worthy of grace and compassion.
In honor of Ruben Paul, the family invites you to carry his spirit forward — love openly, judge less, and never lose hope for those who are still fighting their battles.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home, located at 836 E. Nees Ave., Fresno, CA 93720, on July 22, 2025,at 11:00 am.
