Sab was a wonderful man.  I met him and Marion through my sister and her husband.  I was always happy to be with them at the “walker” get togethers.  My deepest condolences to Marion and family.

Dear Mrs. Masada and Family,

My deepest sympathy in the passage of Rev. Masada.  My mother, Mary Hirose, just heard of his transition

Rev. Masada helped my mother when my father made his going home trip.  Rev. Masada was a man of God's spirit and of man's humanity.

Please accept my deepest condolences as I just heard of Rev. Masada's journey and the peace he experiences.

In Jesus' precious name, you and your family, and parishioners of the churches he served, be blessed to have known him.




I met Sab at the base of Mount Rushmore.  I was inspired by the experience he and Marion shared regarding the the years of their youth.  

Reverend Masada will always have a place in my heart as he not only presided over my wedding but he not only shared the joyous times in my life but the words of comfort when my paternal grandfather and father passed away.
My thoughts are with all of his family and will remember the time we had dinner with him at Dave Wong's, a few years ago. I saw a different side of him at that time. One with a wonderful sense of humor that I will remember.

We will forever remember the most kind and loving spirit that was Rev. Sab. I had the great pleasure of being his pastor to him and Marion during the 6&½ years we served the United Japanese Christian Church. We so respected Rev. Sab.  God's love in Christ shined through Rev. Sab (and Marion) in the most inspiring and generous way. My wife Viki and I will miss him so very much but we will never forget him. Sending my heartfelt sympathy on the passing of your beloved Rev. Sab Masada.   He was the Minister at the Westview Presbyterian Church while I was in my teens & with the Church Youth Organization.   He & you had a  onderful relationship with the congregation & with the Youth & always gave us encouragement to  move forward and, also, made everything enjoyable.

May his wonderful memories help in the continuation of life.

Dear Marion:
My deepest condolences to you and your family.  Marion and Rev. Masada, you have always been special to me and my siblings Ren Jr. and Reiko.  My mother Doris Chiyoko Yamada  found great comfort in your many hospital visits during the 70’s and 80’s.   You may have moved from Stockton but you never left our hearts.  The two of you made compassion and generosity appear so effortless and never a sacrifice of time or a point of religion.  As a Buddhist, Asian American family with Tule Lake histories, we thank you for having the same true character in all the parts of our multiple communities.

I want to extend my deepest condolences to you and your family. I still remember meeting Rev. Masada at a Tule Lake Pilgrimage long ago. I deeply appreciated his heartfelt and frank way of talking about incarceration and its impact on our community. Sending much love and strength to Marion and his family. 

Dear Marion and family,
We are so saddened to hear of Sab's passing, he and you Marion did so much beyond your retirement years. I know you had monthly visits to a prison to see a  woman who you know was innocent. You two are her only contact with the outside world, she appreciates you both. And the hundreds of 'Incarceration' talks you both have given together. Across the country, it is wonderful that you share your stories (sad as they may be) to thousands who did not know the 'Incarceration' even took place.
