On behalf of the Arenas family I wish to extend our condolences to the Collins family, Tom, Paul, Jim, and Dorothy on the loss of their mother. We also wish to extend our condolences to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

I personally met Mrs. Collins in the early 1970’s. I was working part-time at PayLess Drug Stores and going to college at the same time. She was a stock clerk that worked there as well. We called her Betty. She was the type of employee you would want on your team. Pleasant, hard working, and she had a sense of humor. One of our co-workers was a male clerk of Japanese ancestry, and he knew some naughty Japanese words. He would talk with Betty and on occasion he would say a few words in Japanese, and you would see Betty a little surprised, and then she would scold him by saying “bad boy.” There is no telling what words he shared with her.

A few years after I left PayLess, my sister married Paul Collins.
My friendship with Betty was renewed at various family gatherings that occurred over the years.

During the past months her son, Paul, took on the duties of caring for her in her home. That was a large task, and did not go unnoticed. Yes, it was extra work, but I can think of no greater gift that Paul could have given his mother then to allow her to live in the privacy of her home until she could no longer do that. May she rest in peace.
