Sahag was born in Los Angeles on December 4, 1931, to Isabel Egoian and Ardash Kerkorian. His parents divorced when Sahag was 18 months old, so his mother took him to live with her parents on their 10 acre ranch in Tulare.
They stayed in Tulare and Sahag attended grade school thru high school there, graduating from Tulare Union High School in 1950. During high school he played 3 years of varsity football. After high school, Sahag joined the U.S. Navy.
First he was on a tug boat, then transferred to the U.S.S. Bairoko for two tours to Korea. From there he was transferred to the U.S.S. Essex. In August 1954, he was honorably discharged.
Sahag returned to Tulare to work for his uncles doing construction while also taking classes at the College of the Sequoias. He attended CSU Fresno for a year, but his true love was being out at sea. Sahag went to work for Military Sealift Command aboard a number of ships, which took him to Vietnam during the war, the Philippines, Japan, Korea, China, and Taiwan.
When he returned to Fresno, Sahag studied to obtain his real estate license to become a salesman, then later a real estate broker. It was here he met Mary Romeo, the love of his life. They were married on June 11, 1972 at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas. They also renewed their vows years later at St. Paul's Armenian Church in Fresno. In October 1974, Sahag and Mary became parents to their one and only daughter, Alice.
Throughout his life, Sahag always retained an affinity for the ocean. He loved to go boating on his Bayliner with his wife and daughter. He also enjoyed going out dancing with his wife and you always knew he had come home when you heard Little Richard or Chuck Berry blasting on his truck stereo.
In 2006, Sahag and his wife Mary were rescued by a dog they named Little Man when he showed up on their porch one day. Sahag's love for animals, especially dogs, grew and Little Man became his regular sidekick, though he also loved spending time with his daughter's dog, Lily.
He collected military memorabilia and was a member of the Orders and Medals Society of America and the Amvets. He was a generous person, donating to the African American Historical and Cultural Museum, Valley Animal Center, and Animal Rescue of Fresno (ARF).
Sahag leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Mary, his daughter Alice, brothers Michael and Greg Kerkorian, two nieces, a nephew, and numerous cousins. It should be noted that Sahag had several caregivers from Senior Helpers Clovis who lovingly cared for and attended to him in his final days.
