

Sarah Mascarenas, age 80, was born in Fresno, California, the daughter of Abe and Mable Mascarenas. She resided at Cedar Creek Senior Living for a number of years and was a resident of Madera, Ca for over 15 years. Sarah passed away Monday, September 9, 2024 in Fresno, CA surrounded by her family under the care of Bright Horizon Hospice after a long struggle with cancer. Sarah attended Central Union High School where she was an excellent student and was on the school’s tennis team in which she won the Valley Championship. After high school she continued her education at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana. She played multiple sports while attending Grace College. When she came back home, Sarah worked for the California Employment Development Department for over 30 years in multiple positions and ended her career as a judicator. During her lifetime, Sarah made friends wherever she went. Her circle of friends came from all over. A true testament to the friends that she made over her 80 years was the visitors that came and visited her during her last days.
Sarah was a member of her local Republican Women’s Organization. Sarah held various positions in her club and was Membership Promotion for the California Federation of Republican Women, Central Division where membership increased dramatically through her leadership. Her involvement in politics was a result of her parents influence in encouraging her and her siblings to know the issues and get involved.
Sarah was an avid reader and she could carry on a conversation on any current issue and on many subjects, but her love of studying the Bible was evidence in her biblical based conversations and her love of sharing her faith with others. She was a kind and generous person who always put others before herself. Sarah from Madera which she was known, will be remembered for her infectious smile and happy nature and joy of life.
Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, Abe and Mabel Mascarenas, her brothers Tim Mascarenas and Ben Mascarenas, sister-in-law Darlene Mascarenas. She is survived by her sister Betty Scheidt and her husband Jim, brother Steve Mascarenas and his wife Lori, niece Leanna Palumbo and husband Joey, nephew Richard Mascarenas, and niece Macy Lange and husband Joseph. She is also survived by her great nephews, Giuseppe and Geovanni Palumbo, Gabriel Mascarenas, great niece Hannah Mascarenas, and great nephew Aaron Lange.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the wonderful and caring staff at Cedar Creek Senior Living, Pacific Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Bright Horizon Hospice for providing care and comfort to Sarah through her journey and in her last days.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Fresno Memorial Gardens, 175 South Cornelia Avenue, Fresno, CA 93706
