Thomas Stephen Lang passed away on June 23, 2019 at the age of 82 years following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was born July 10, 1936 in Duluth, Minnesota, the only child of Thomas Stephen and Martha (Pond) Lang. He grew up in Duluth and was active in local scouting and sporting activities. While attending Cathedral High School, he met his future wife, Rosemary Boehme.
Tom and Rosemary were married in Duluth on August 24, 1957. They moved to Minneapolis where they raised four children. Tom began his career as a Parts Manager at Minneapolis Equipment Company where he worked for many years. In 1979, the family moved to Fresno, California where Tom continued to work in the construction industry until his retirement in 2015 from Fresno Tractor, Inc.
Tom greatly enjoyed vacations and gatherings with his family. He was very involved in his children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s lives. He loved attending their school concerts, scouting activities, sporting events, plays, musicals and performances. He especially enjoyed baseball, watching the Minnesota Twins when he lived in Minnesota and later the San Francisco Giants. Tom was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fresno. He was a charter member of Aquarius Aquarium Institute.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemary, of nearly 62 years; brother-in-law John Boehme; his four children, Thomas J. Lang and his wife Aletha, Chris Lang and his wife Claire, Ruth Lang, Cathy Garvey and her husband Mike; eight grandchildren; Eileen Smith and her husband Brandon, Peter Lang and his wife Vanessa, Katelyn Lee, Brianna Lee, Daniel Lee, Meagan Garvey and Kendrick Garvey; and two great-grandchildren; Cody Smith and Jakob Smith.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, July 5 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 355 E. Champlain Drive, Fresno.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
