Thomas Henry Reitz passed away in his home on February 23, 2022, at the age of 79. He was born to Henry and Pauline Reitz on May 5, 1942, in Fresno, California. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1960, where he boxed and played the trombone, and went on to Fresno State College. He began building motors for roadsters at a young age with his cousin, Jim Bohner, and grew his knowledge and expertise from there. He became a fireman in 1970 and worked for North Central Fire Department and Fresno City Fire Department until he retired in 1988, due to an injury. During his time as a fireman he never stopped working on cars and building race engines, as this truly was his life’s passion. After retiring he started his own business, Tom Reitz Racing Engines, where he thrived as an engine builder and was a master of his trade and respected by many in the racing world. He absolutely loved his work and the people he worked with. He was a fun guy to be around and would lend a hand to anyone in need. He loved telling jokes and sharing a laugh with others. He truly had a way of making those around him feel better and always had kind words of encouragement to offer to anyone who came to him with a problem. He also loved fishing and spending time on the coast with his family when he was able to take time off from the ever-demanding needs of his work. He was a great son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all.
He married Cathy Stark at the age of 31 years old and they had 2 children together and he raised Cathy's oldest son as his own. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Reitz, two sons, William and Richard Reitz, daughter, Sarah Robles, 5 grandchildren, Paige, Cate Elijah, Jessica, and Bryson and brother, Douglas.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 2, 2022 at LoMac Winery.
