Tonya Lynn Kiggens, 80, was born June 25, 1946, in Fresno, California, and passed away October 25, 2026. Tonya was a beloved, compassionate, and devoted presence in the lives of many, remembered for her steady wisdom, generous spirit, and kind-hearted way of making others feel seen and at ease. A resilient and selfless woman, she carried herself with a calm, welcoming grace that drew both loved ones and strangers into comfort and conversation. She spent the last year in San Marcos, California with her daughter Kacy Peters.
Raised in Fresno, Tonya graduated from Bullard High School in 1964. In those early years, her warmth and sincerity were already evident—whether working at the Royal Drive-in, lifting her voice in the choir, or spending treasured summers at Pismo Beach with her grandmother, brother, cousins, and friends. Those who knew Tonya best recognized in her a quiet strength and an empathetic attentiveness that never asked to be noticed yet was always felt.
Tonya built a life marked by dedication and capable leadership, serving as office manager for several large cotton gin operations in the Five Points area. In her work, as in every part of her life, she was dependable and thoughtful—someone others could count on for steadiness, fairness, and practical care.
She also gave generously of her time to her community. Tonya served as a School Board Member from 1981 to 1994 for the Westside Elementary School District in Five Points, California. For more than 15 years she volunteered, and she was active in the PTA—offering her energy and attention in ways that strengthened the lives of children and families and reflecting the deep compassion that guided her choices.
In 1967, Tonya married Quentin Kiggens, who preceded her in death in 2023. Tonya’s family and friends were her whole world, and her devotion shone most brightly in the love she poured into those closest to her. She is survived by her daughter, Kacy Peters (Dan), and her son, Dan Kiggens (Melissa); her grandchildren, Christopher Kiggens, Tyler Kiggens, Melanie Tracey (Matt), and Jay Peters; and she was also blessed with 3 great-grandchildren.
Tonya found joy in the simple, lasting gifts of everyday life: spending time with family and friends, watching her grandchildren grow up, reading, singing, listening to music, and reading her devotionals. Her gentle presence, her ability to listen without judgment, and her generous heart formed a legacy that will continue in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Tonya often said, “It is what it is, but it will become what you make it.” Grounded in a very strong faith in God, she would also say she did not fear death. She believed that her loved ones who had passed on remained close by—a belief that brought her peace and offered reassurance to others.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Pacifica Fresno Assisted Living - Care Staff; Meridian at Lake San Marcos Memory Care - Care Staff; and Advantage Health Systems Hospice, San Diego - Care Team, for their care and support.
