I met Tom & Nancy through Fowler Dance Club and Joe &Irene Hara about 20 years ago. I’d heard that they used to go to the dance competitions as a couple. And what an elegant dancing couple they were!  When Tom would ask me to dance with him and/or at ‘bus stops,’ I felt honored and also got nervous, afraid of stepping on his toes. Tom would tell me, “Kay, just relax and enjoy…” 

Tom was a friendly man; his hearty  laughs coming from deep down as if he was a trained singer. He and Nancy were cute devoted couple.

I met Rick in high school and we quickly became part of a trio that became lifetime friends. Along the way we would get to spend some time with Tom... through high school and college he would repair our cars for pennies on the dollar. I would limp in with a broken vehicle and he would ask: How much can you afford? and, no matter what small amount I had, he seemed to be able to repair it within budget.... rubber bands and duct tape were never used.  It took me years to figure out that he had generously and quietly given his time and expertise to keep us on the road. That was Tom... humbly giving his time, wisdom and love to all of us. He raised some wonderful kiddos and was a husband and dad that I looked up too. I wish the Hara Family many memories of the lessons and laughter that he brought to all of us.

We were blessed to have Tom and Nancy as our neighbors for many years!   During the summer we would share our garden’s bounty and Tom and Nancy would share with us some of the best peaches ever.   Tom would ride his bike and Nancy would be out on her walks.   Once in awhile I would walk along and catch up.

Our condolences to the family and know that Tom will be missed greatly.

Mrs Hara, Stacy, Kim, Rick and Randy:

I'm so sorry to hear about Coach.  When your dad and Mr Sano coached us in Jr YBA, he gave me my nickname "Stretch" and it stuck.  To this day, he always remembered it and when i saw him last year, he looked at me and asked "how's it going Stretch?"  and I said still 5'11" but trying!!  We'd laugh and catch up on whatever was going on.  
As I look back on those times, I was very thankful for his patience. I grew fast and wasn't the most coordinated but he'd keep working with me on my footwork and to this day, i try to do that with the kids I coach.  Everyone needs to feel like they fit in at that age and he did that for me.  Will be forever thankful to him...

We were all blessed to know such a kind and generous man. I have always enjoyed spending time with Tom. I will remember all the great times and the great impact he had on all those around him. He will be missed and leaves a great legacy to follow in his foot steps.
