Vaunda Vicki Leen Amaro

February 5, 1931April 11, 2013

AMARO—Vaunda Leen Amaro, 82, of Fresno died Thursday, April 11, 2013. She was born in Wilson, Oklahoma on February 5, 1931 and moved with her parents, four sisters and three brothers to a small, two bedroom house in Selma. She graduated from Selma High School and in 1951 was married to Vernal Amaro and they raised four sons.

Vaunda was known as Vicki to all of her friends and devoted her life to her family. When her sons were still in grammar school, the family moved to the country and Vicki was constantly driving her boys to town in her pink Oldsmobile for haircuts, Cub Scout meetings, shopping trips and visits with relatives. She was an active participant in their school PTAs and probably baked over a thousand cupcakes for their school events. She encouraged her children to study hard and to get involved in school activities, especially sports, music and FFA. As her children left home for college, Vicki accompanied Vernal on weekend drives to the ranch and especially enjoyed trips to Las Vegas where she was once caught with a friend trying to sneak into an Elvis rehearsal.

During the past twenty years, Vicki spent her life as a homemaker and enjoying weekend barbeques and holiday dinners with family and friends and visits with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She lived a peaceful, quiet life and her only indulgence was her backyard, which was a magnificent blend of lawn, pool, trees, shrubs and flowers that reflected her vision, talent and hard work and delighted all that were able to enjoy it. She provided love to her family and friends and a good living for the owners of the local cigarette store and flower nurseries.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernal, her son, Michael, her brother, Johnny, and her sisters Maxine, Pauline and Lucille. She is survived by her three sons, Terry and his wife Cindy of Clovis, Thomas and girlfriend Lee Ann Brown of Visalia and Theodore and partner Hal Katkov of San Francisco, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and her sister, Betty, and her brothers, Alva and Jimmy. The family wishes to thank Right at Home Caregivers and AseraCare Hospice for their warm and loving care and Dr. APS Sidhu for his compassion and kindness. Consistent with her wishes, private services will be held for the immediate family.

  • Private Family Services will be held.
