

Vernon, the son of Adam and Edith Schmall was born on September 3, 1932, in Fresno. He passed away in his home on Sunday, May 13, 2012 due to a pre-leukemia condition called MDS. He was 79 years old. He wed Donna Carol Ferguson on December 13, 1959. They were married for 43 years before Donna passed in August of 2003
Vernon graduated from San Joaquin Memorial High School, where he excelled in all sports, in particular baseball. He brought that excellence from the diamond when he served his country by playing in the Armed Forces G. I. World Series in 1954. After the Army, Vernon worked as a Soundman, Communication Technician and then an Electrician. He eventually retired with Fresno Unified School District.
Vernon was a tireless worker, a perfectionist, who brought passion and drive to his craft. He led by example, and instinctively knew how to get the job done correctly. He was devoted to his family and provided for them well. He loved music, reading, animals, and sports.
He was preceded in death by his wife Donna; and granddaughter Christen.
Vernon is survived by his son Vernon Jr., and his wife Lillie; son Steve and his wife Julie, grandchildren Christopher, Hannah and Jakob and his sister Diane Haines.
A Memorial Service will be held in his honor at Northpointe Community Church on Friday, May 18, 2012, at 12:00 noon.
