Violet Mae (Campos) McCoy, 83, of Fresno and formerly of Hanford, passed away surrounded by her family on October 3, 2018 in Traditions Memory Care in The Oakmont of Fresno. She was born on Feb. 21, 1935 in Madera, CA.
Violet, who was affectionately known to everyone as Vi, attended Edison High School (Class of ‘53), before attending Fresno City College where she received her Associate of Arts Degree. She worked for the State of California in various departments before finding her dream job with the California Highway Patrol in Hanford, where she worked for 16 years as an office assistant.
Everyone who knew Vi knew that family was her first passion and delight. She married the love of her life, Milton “Milt” McCoy, in 1958. The couple eventually settled in Hanford, where they lived for 43 years and raised three daughters. Vi loved being part of such a close-knit family and enjoyed traveling with them well into her 80’s. She often said her greatest memories were those she created during these family trips. Vi was also known as a devoted and loyal friend and auntie. She was warm, generous and loving and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her presence could light up the darkest of rooms. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Marie Campos of Fresno; sister Florence Mangaoang of Daly City; and brothers Benjamin Bernabe of Anaheim and Nathaniel Bernabe of Apache Junction, AZ.
Vi is survived by her beloved husband, Milt; daughters Kelley of Fresno, Shawna McCoy Just and her wife Shana of Sacramento, and Tracey Hanson and her husband Erik of Elk Grove; three grandchildren and one great granddaughter; her sister Dolores Melella of Fresno; and several nephews and nieces.
A Memorial Service will be held at The St. Paul Catholic Newman Center, 1572 E. Barstow Ave., Fresno on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. To celebrate Vi’s vibrant personality and honor her wishes, Aloha wear or attire with uplifting colors is encouraged.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dementia Society of America; the American Heart Association; or your favorite animal charity.
