Mr. Virgil Nabors

Virgil passed peacefully in his sleep at his loving son, Dwight and Sandy’s home in Delhi CA where he had lived for the past few years he was 95.

Virgil was born August 17, 1917 in Glen Rose Texas to Buster and Ruth Elizabeth Dempsey Nabors.

In 1951, Margret and Virgil packed up the four children and followed her family to California to manage one of the family grocery stores in Fresno at the corner of Shields and Grantland. 1957 Virgil started with the Department of Forestry as a Fire Apparatus Engineer. Captain Virgil L. Nabors retired from the California Department of Forestry on October 11, 1978 after Twenty-one years of service. Virgil loved to fish and travel, but always stayed in Contact with his loved ones, and Fire Fighting Family. He made it a point to be the first one at Brooks Ranch Retiree Breakfast on the first Monday of every month, so he could get his spot in Diana’s section.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents ,Busterand Ruth Nabors of Texas; his wife, Margret Elizabeth Owens Nabors of twenty-one years; his eldest son, Larry Lee Nabors of Fresno CA; and siblings Wheeler Nabors, Ben Nabors, Sadie Norman, Pearl Daniel, Grace McCarty, Kay Nabors all from Glen Rose TX.

He is survived by three children; his son, Ray Nabors of Hanford CA; daughter, Rebecca and son in-law Gordon Evans of Turlock CA; son, Dwight daughter in-law Sandy Nabors; and daughter in-law Patricia Nabors of Fresno CA; 14 grandchildren, 22 Great-Great Grandchildren, and One Great-great-great- Grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service for Virgil L. Nabors will be held Thursday, January 17, 2013, at 1:00 pm at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home,1525 E. Saginaw, Fresno, CA 93704, Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1411 W. Belmont Ave.
