William Bert Jones
April 22, 1941 – November 29, 2019
William Bert Jones was born on April 22, 1945 in Vancouver, Washington to William O. Jones and Harriet E. Woodsmall. Bill’s father died just before his 10th birthday and he was raised by a single mother. Bill lived in a variety of cities and states in his lifetime, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, Arizona, Wisconsin, and California. He worked in the airline industry for many years and then moved to Information Technology as the computer age was born. He retired as an Information Technology Specialist from the City of Fresno in 2003. Bill was a military veteran. During the Cold War, he worked for military intelligence, deciphering and decoding messages from German into English. He married Marla Jenkins in 1965. From this marriage were born twin girls, Kris and Kelly. He later married Merleigh Pol on January 10, 1987. They were a perfect love match. Bill was known for his generosity, sense of humor, intelligence, extreme patriotism, right-wing politics, and his love of Cheez-Its and chocolate covered raisins. He was a published author on the subject of ham radio communications and had had a ham radio license since 1955. He enjoyed bicycling and had a pilot’s license. Other than Merleigh, there is no one he loved more than his personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His Christian faith was the hallmark of his character. Bill died peacefully at home in Sanger, California on November 29, 2019. He was predeceased by his parents William and Harriet Jones, sisters Phyllis Jones and Evelyn Lundberg, and a stepson Mark Pol. He is survived by his beloved wife Merleigh, his children and stepchildren Kris and Gabor Szovati, Kelly Metz, David and Martha Pol, Robert Pol, Richard Pol, Johnny Pol, and Kristen Pol and Joshua Deutsch, and siblings David and Grace Jones and Virginia and Norman Sample. In addition, he loved his sweet cat, Luke, and had many friends all around the world. William Jones will be sorely missed.
